6th Annual
Fredstrom PTO Read-A-Thon
Spring, 2017

What is a Read-A-Thon? Its an opportunity to encourage our students to read or to be read to while raising funds for PTO sponsored events.

How will the money raised be used?  The PTO will use the money to continue to provide educational field trips, equipment, and supplies for the students. 100% of the money collected will be used at Fredstrom!!!

What is our goal? For the entire school to read 80,000 minutes, raise $8,000, and have FUN while improving the students reading skills.

Prizes? Of course!! If the entire school reads at least 80,000 minutes (that's only 7 1/2 minutes a day per student), the entire school will receive a popcorn party. For every $30 a student collects, his/her name will be entered into the drawings for prizes.  The student from each homeroom who raises the most money will win a celebratory lunch with a special guest.  There will be other weekly prizes too!

Grand Prizes:

  1. TBA
  2. TBA
  3. TBA

How to Participate:

  1. Secure Sponsors. Each student is encouraged to secure one-time flat fee pledges from parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. anyone willing to support our school for minutes your student reads. Pledges can be in any amount - no amount too small! You are responsible for collecting all pledges. Checks should be made payable to: Fredstrom PTO The PTO is a non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible! Tax ID: 45-4926964
  2. Track Reading Time. Read! Read! Read! Youstudent will record how many minutes he/she reads each day  at home using the attached Minute Tracking Sheet”. The Minute Tracking Sheet should be tallied weekly and turned in each Thursday to your students homeroom teacher’s envelope for drawings. Students will be able to monitor their team’s and school progress on a chart by the lunchroom. Return all pledges in the student’s Read-A-Thon envelope.

  • Reading DURING class time DOES NOT COUNT!
  • If your student cannot read yet, anyone reading to him/her DOES count as reading minutes.
  • Even if your student does not obtain sponsors, he/she is encouraged to participate!
